Jiayun completed a master degree in physical
geography at the ULB in 2010. Her master thesis
dealt with the biogeochemical properties of sea
ice at Barrow (Alaska), with a special focus on
the gas composition and gas content. How are they
affected by the permeability of sea ice and the
activity of sympagic organisms? How could these
processes influence the exchanges of climatic
gases between the atmosphere and the ocean?
She started a PhD in october 2010 (FNRS
scholarship) under the supervision of Pr. Jean-Louis Tison and will
further investigate the key aspects of her master
thesis. To fulfil this objective, similar
biogeochemical measurements will be done at
McMurdo Sound (Antarctica). A comparison between
data gathered in both hemispheres will certainly
reveal interesting differences/similarities in
dynamic processes. |
